Treating Patients with C.A.R.E.
The Treating Patients with C.A.R.E. workshop is a fast paced, interactive program that gives participants opportunities to practice skills and techniques, not simply just hear about them. This licensed workshop was developed by the Institute of Healthcare Communication. Participants view video encounters between staff and patients and work in small groups on skills that apply in a variety of realistic situations.
The overall training goal is to improve verbal and non-verbal communication skills in order to achieve impressive health service and positively impact health outcomes. Learn to communicate in ways that enhance satisfaction and encourage partnership. You will walk away from this workshop being able to apply the essential skills which are organized into a four-point model: Connect, Appreciate, Respond, and Empower (C.A.R.E).
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Identify staff/patient interactions that lead to positive outcomes
- Describe effective communication strategies for connecting with patients and appreciating their circumstances and experience
- Give examples of effective responses to patients and to involve them in their own health care
- Apply the C.A.R.E. model in the settings in which they work
Who should attend?
Open to all health care providers, administrators, receptionists, policy makers, community support/outreach workers, recreation therapists, healthcare students and all other providers who support person-centered care.
How long is the workshop?
- 4 hours – Half Day (1 x 4-hour session or 2 x 2-hour sessions)
- Can be introduced as a 1-hour overview
