Choices & Changes: Motivating Healthy Behaviours
Choices & Changes is designed to help clinicians influence clients’ health behaviours by supporting clients on their journey to improve lifestyle choices and self-management of their conditions. This licensed workshop was developed by the Institute of Healthcare Communication. The workshop consists of mini-lectures, interactive exercises, videotaped case studies and skill practice to provide clinicians with specific and efficient communication strategies that can be utilized to support client-centered care.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
- Reflect on the role of the clinician as a facilitator of change
- Identify strategies to assess an individual’s motivation and readiness for change
- Learn skills and techniques to help influence client behavior and self management
- Demonstrate 3 core motivational interviewing skills
Who should attend?
Open to all health care providers, community support workers and healthcare students who support person-centered care.
How long is the workshop?
- 4 hours – Half Day (1 x 4-hour session or 2 x 2-hour sessions)
- Can also be introduced as a 1-hour overview
